“De Bonte Hen” (The many-coloured Hen) is the most northerly one of the row of mills of the Zaanse Schans. It is probably build in, or shortly after, 1693. In 1936 the mill was pulled down to scaffolding-level, the remainder was used as storage. In 1973 “De Zaansche Molen” became owner of that. In five years it was rebuild to a complete oil-mill again, which is put in operation every now and then, just as the rest of the mills in the row along the Kalveringsdijk. In the early years of the last century (20th) “De Bonte Hen” had the function of test-mill for the oil-fuel-factory of the firm Crok en Laan.
