The mill “de Kat” (The Cat) is an, originally in 1781 build, octagonal scaffolding-mill, since the partial rebuilding on the Zaanse Schans in 1960 fit up as paint-mill. The upper-octagon is coming from the mill “De Duinjager” from Zaandam, which was dated about 1696.
About 1900 “De Duinjager” grinded chalk and later on pieces of coal.
The pulverized coal was used in iron foundries.
After the pulling down in 1959 the upper-octagon was placed on the foundation of “De Kat”.
